En route from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe and points east you might overlook a treasure hidden in the hills. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it--about 30 miles outside of downtown Sacramento are the communities of Cameron Park and Shingle Springs nestled among the trees and rolling hills.
 
Originally home to Native Americans, then miners, entrepreneurs and ranchers, these towns have remained serene and close-knit. Today, they retain a small-town quality yet with a vitality and diversity that exemplifies their citizens.
